Wii definitely looks cool and I am hoping that new fangled controller brings a new level of enjoyment to first-person shooters for console games. Kudos to you!
Erm, so…Do they really ship the Wii in individual boxes inside foam packed individual boxes? Not to be a bit of a fanny about this but isn’t that a bit wasteful…surely slightly bigger cardboard boxes could store up to two..or possibly more? i mean I know that our environment needs all the kicking it can get..but really?
Anyway, I am looking forward to trying out a wii…the last promo video I saw made it look very exciting…I’m still dubious though…we’re so used to having our entertainment mediated by unusual peripheral’s and arbitrary control styles, will we ba able to adjust? and will we get tired just trying to play?
Came across this gem of a preview of the Nintendo Wii console box…and couldn’t resist hopping on the bandwagon for this one. I personally don’t mind the spoiler, since I’ll probably be holding off on getting my own until at leas…
#5… Why do you need this console now? There are no games available and there are no decent games on the horizon. Why are people freeking out about this? Zelda for the Cube is a million times more fun to play than the waggling version.

I feel I have to kneel before the sheer vastness of the sleaze that the aforementioned moustache implies. Its incredible, the guy’s moustache appears to have frozen his face into a permanent expression of superioty and smugness. That’s a powerful moustachio.
Dude, you can hook up GC controllers to the Wii, from what I understand. One of the pictures shows the door open with the four controller ports on the top of the Wii. I would guess you can enable Zelda to use that controller option and not have to use the Remote if you wanted to.
And from my understanding, you can use GC games on the Wii. So in essence, you do have games to play on it.
@McClaud. If you can confirm that, then you’ve actually destroyed my one reservation about the Wii. If that’s true then, in the words of the lord our saviour, ‘the Wii shall inherit the Earth’.
I’m sure he said that somewhere…its in the back somewhere

Yes, the Wii can use gamecube controllers and play gamecube games. This has been confirmed for a very long time. It can also use emulation to play downloaded NES, SNES, N64 and I believe some Sega games.

You are partially right however if you wanted to play Twilight pRincess with your GC controller you would have to buy the GC version of the game, this version dosent feature 16;9 display or 480p like the Wii version, so it wouldn’t look or feel as good however if you wanted to stick with analogue control then that is probably your best option.

No the Wii wont come in a foam packed box, that was just what Nintendo used to send the first consoles out to the world media, the console you go to buy in the shops in your region will be in the white box that you see in pictures 1 and 2. As for getting tired when playing games, the Wiimote is a very sensative when it comes to movement, the tennis game in Wii sports alone is so fine tuned it can sense over 100 different swings depending on tilt, power, angle and rotation, of your wiimote, big gestures aren’t nesasary to make the console work, and some people wont have the room in thier house to get the most out of it. Some games like Red Steel recomened you stand about5-8 metres away from your TV whilst playing. Big gestures aren’t needed but if you really want to get into your game and don’t mind a workout then why not.
Hope these answer your questions, i am happy to help with anything else keep em coming.
Of course, now that we have a Wii here for business purposes, I can officially say that it does play GC games with the GC controllers quite fine. And I have been told that not all the games released for the Wii will be remote-use only. So I guess that’s a benefit as well.
I have to have an actual Wii game to try before I can say more about that.
The emulator games available are just what many gamers could ask for. I’m highly confident of the Wii now.
@Scott and Mcclaud,
Thanks for the more detailed info.
@Scott
I think you misinterpreted my boxing issue. Of course the pretty white box is going to end up on the shelf, but they’ll be shipped to store in another box for protection. It looked in the photo like the outer protective box only contained one, which is ridiculous. Having thought about it though (and noting your comments) I would assume that when they ship they’ll be shipped for sale it will all be in bulk and so the problem will be reduced. It just bothers me when there is unnecessary waste for no good reason. As I say though, thanks for the comments.
Basically I now have full faith in the Wii to be a massive success, though obviously I’ll need to play it to be certain.
